The Global Action on Green Development of Special Agricultural Products: One Country One Priority Product
    Action plan 2021–2025
    2022
The Action Framework (2021-2025) for the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agro-Products: “One country – One Priority Product” (OCOP) presents the rationale, main pillars, key principles, thematic areas, results framework, budget, and activity planning, coordination and implementation, and guidelines for country project application for implementation of the Global Action. Special agricultural products (SAPs) are agricultural products with unique qualities and special characteristics associated with geographical locations, farming practices and cultural heritages. They are important examples of underutilized resources, which have not received the same attention as commonly known agricultural products, but which can significantly contribute to ensuring food security and healthy diets, supporting a sustainable bioeconomy, and improving farmers’ livelihoods and economic growth while protecting the environment and biodiversity. SAPs include all kinds of agricultural products, with the potential to become national or local agricultural products, and to be integrated into local, regional, and global markets and trade. In this context, Global Action has been developed based on the renewed mission of FAO. The Global Action will promote inclusive, profitable, and environmentally sustainable value chains through optimizing the structure, functionality, and service of SAPs production systems, minimizing the application of agrochemicals, waste, and losses, and maximizing integrated agro-profits to enable the transition to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agriculture production.

The Action Plan 2022–2025 for the implementation of the FAO Science and Innovation Strategy 2023
The FAO Science and Innovation Strategy Action Plan (2022-25) provides a common framework for FAO action at the country, sub-regional, regional and global levels. The FAO Science and Innovation Strategy is a tool to support the delivery of the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–31 and hence the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Strategy’s Action Plan is a living document covering four years (2022–25), and it will be updated, as needed, to reflect new needs, opportunities and challenges. The Action Plan was developed through an inclusive and transparent consultative process, drawing on inputs from all relevant FAO streams and the Regional, Sub-regional and Country Offices, as well as guidance and feedback from Members. The Action Plan follows the structure of the Strategy with 3 pillars, 9 outcomes and 2 enablers. It links the Strategy’s outcomes and enablers to relevant SDG targets and Programme Priority Areas. Under each of the outcomes and enablers, the Action Plan introduces several outputs, which are achieved through key areas of work, reflecting FAO’s priorities for supporting Members to harness science and innovation. The Strategy’s guiding principles are inter-linked and guide all of the Organization’s science and innovation-related work in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In 2021, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) and FAO signed the Letter of Agreement (LoA) on the provision of technical support and assistance in the organization of the regional expert consultations, developing the draft project frameworks, concept notes, and pilot project documents (regional and national), conducting training sessions for researchers, agriculture and extension specialists from pilot countries; and contributing to the promotion of Special Agricultural Products (SAPs) and green technologies in the framework of the Global Action on Green Development of Special Agricultural Products: “One Country One Priority Product” (OCOP)”. Through the collaboration with FAO, the Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) and CATAS organized three training sessions on 28-30 November 2022, devoted to the promotion of a green value chain of field crops, fruit crops and horticultural crops produced in the tropics. The training sessions will serve as a forum to share the knowledge and experiences in sustainable tropical agriculture, lessons learned by China in promoting the SAPs, food value chain and other tropical technologies with trainees from the developing countries.
