No results found.This document is the report of the ninth meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Project for Small-Scale Fisheries Development of the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP). The meeting was hosted by the Government of Thailand and was held in Bangkok, February 25-26, 1985. The meeting constituted a session of the third meeting of the Committee for the Development and Management of Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal (briefly Bay of Bengal Committee or BOBC) held from February 25 to March 1. This report is therefore an extract of the proceedings of the BOBC meeting. (The full report of the BOBC meeting is being published under the FAO fisheries report series by the FAO headquarters.) The report records the deliberations and conclusions of the Advisory Committee meeting.lt includes a description and analysis of progress made by the project in 1984, the sixth year of operation. It may therefore serve as a source of reference to officials of fisheries agencies of member countries and to donor ag encies. It may also interest other institutions and individuals engaged in small-scale fisheries development, particularly in the Bay of Bengal region. -

No results found.This document is the report of the implementation of the project “Aquaculture Demonstration for Small-Scale Fisheries Development, Phang Nga, Thailand” during its first phase, March 1979 to September 1981. A short account of the project’s background, objectives, modus operandi and pre-operational activities is followed by a description and assessment of each component of the project - aquaculture demonstration, community development and the women component. It shows that cockle culture is the most successful aquaculture activity, while the commercial feasibility of finfish cage culture and oyster culture and the technical feasibility of mussel culture are yet to be established. The achievements of the community development component and the extensive training activities under each project component are also highlighted in the report. The report is based on the work of Mr. Boon Boonruang, Senior Fishery Biologist (team leader of the project) under the supervision of Mr. Vanich Varik ul, Director of the Brackishwater Fisheries Division of the Department of Fisheries, Thailand (Project Director) and the South China Sea Fisheries Development and Coordinating Programme. On behalf of the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP), technical support for the execution of the project was provided to the Department of Fisheries, Thailand by the South China Sea Fisheries Development and Coordinating Programme (SCSP). Consequent to a joint review of the project, carried out at the end of the first phase, in which representatives of the Thailand Department of Fisheries, BOBP and SCSP participated, agreement for the support of a second phase of the project was reached between the Department and BOBP. -

No results found.This document is the report of the fifth meeting of the Advisory Committee of the programme “Development of Small-Scale Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal” referred to in brief as the “Bay of Bengal Programme”. The meeting was hosted by the Government of Malaysia and held in Penang, Malaysia November 4-7, 1980. The report records the deliberations and the conclusions of the meeting and was approved by the committee. The report includes a summary of progress made by the BOBP in 1980, the second y ear of operation. It also discusses the outlines of future work. It therefore serves as a source of reference to officials of the countries concerned and might be of interest to other agencies and people engaged in small-scale fisheries development, particularly in the Bay of Bengal area.
