Synopsis (short abstract) This fact sheet presents the FISH4ACP programme addressing the vulnerability of women in kapenta fisheries in Zambia. FISH4ACP is supporting the formation of Dimitra Clubs in 16 fishing villages on Lake Tanganyika. The Dimitra Clubs serve as catalysts of collective action and self-help for transformative action towards gender equality. They will contribute to improved livelihoods and social cohesion in the fishing communities.

    Self-help groups – Unlocking formal finance for artisanal fishing communities

    This fact sheet presents the FISH4ACP programme to improve access to credit and microfinance for fishing communities in Sao Tome and Principe. Around 200 people from five fishing communities, mostly women fish traders and fish processors, are organized into 10 self-help groups. This will allow them to pool their savings and pursue individual and joint financial goals. Consequently, the groups will have better access to financial services, enabling them to obtain working capital and expand their businesses.
