Synopsis (short abstract) The Tenth Round Table Meeting for Pacific Island Countries (RTM) on WTO and Regional Trade Agreements and Provisions was held at the Kingsgate Portland Hotel in Wellington, New Zealand, 17-21 September 2007. The meeting was attended by participants from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Resource persons and speakers for the meeting were provided by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations ( FAO), the Government of New Zealand, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) and its Auckland-based Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission (PITIC), and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). Representatives of the European Union (EU) and the Government of Italy also attended. The fu ll list of participants and resource persons is attached as Annex 1.

    The overall objective of the Round Table Meeting (RTM) series is to promote awareness and deepen the understanding of the implications of the WTO multilateral trading system on the agriculture and fisheries sector and, in particular on agricultural and food trade in the region. This was the twelfth in a series of meetings organized by FAO on this subject since 1998. For this year, the focus was on briefing decision and policy makers in Agriculture and Fisheries on the WTO related issues with mor e emphasis on PICTA, PACER Plus and similar regional trade agreements and the importance of these issues to the Pacific and how decisions taken may affect the overall development of agriculture and fisheries in the region.

The meeting was attended by participants from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.     يعرض هذا الكتاب مجموعة صور فريدة من نوعها توثق كيف لعبت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة دوريا رائدا في الكفاح من أجل القضاء على الجوع في شتى أرجاء المعمورة منذ 1945. ويسلط الضوء على جهود المنظمة المتواصلة لمساعدة الدول الأعضاء لتحقيق هدف "القضاء على الجوع" في عالم متغير يواجه تحديات ملحة، من الهجرة إلى تغير المناخ. ويضع تمهيد المدير العام وديباجة مدير الإتصالات بالمنظمة القارئ في نسق عمل المنظمة ويوفرا له أمثلة حية حول كيف يمكن "للقضاء على الجوع" أن يغير حياة الناس نحو الأفضل. إلى جانب ذلك، يوفر الكتاب س يرة عن السفراء الخاصين للنوايا الحسنة الذين عينتهم المنظمة مؤخرا للقضاء على الجوع. ويضطلع هؤلاء السفراء الذين ينحدرون من مجالات مختلفة بمهمة إيصال إلى مناطقهم والعالم بأسره رسالة مفادها أنه بإمكاننا أن نصبح جيل القضاء على الجوع مع حلول عام 2030 . وبالإضافة إلى الصور والعناوين الخاصة بها، جاءت بعض النصوص المرافقة لها لتصف عمل المنظمة ولحظات مهمة في تاريخها على مر العقود. وبذلك، يمكن للقارئ أن يرى تفاصيل الصورة الكاملة.

    Este documento resume el proyecto de la FAO TCP RLA 3804 en América Latina, que buscaba identificar la vinculación entre las políticas gubernamentales, la protección social y las acciones anticipatorias en el territorio. Los estudios realizados en Colombia, Nicaragua y República Dominicana identificaron oportunidades y brechas en esta vinculación, especialmente para comunidades rurales vulnerables, considerando aspectos de género y las necesidades de grupos indígenas y afrodescendientes. El proyecto aportó valiosas lecciones al campo de la gestión del riesgo de desastres.
