ArticleEffect of cutting dimensions, rooting media and incubation on vegetative propagation of Prunus armeniaca

No results found.Propagation through cuttings of Prunus armeniaca – a tree borne oilseed of mid hills and dry temperate regions in India was tested by using three treatments. Vegetative propagation provides the opportunity in multiplication by cuttings by providing true-to-its-type plant and producing superior individuals. Effect of length and diameter, type and concentration of auxin and incubation method and duration on rooting of cuttings in wild apricot was studied. The study concluded that the optimal condition for rooting percentage in P. armeniaca is maximum using the incubator for 18 days on cutting length of 15 cm and cutting diameter of 1.0-1.5 cm after the application of IBA @ 5000 ppm. The survival percentage was also enhanced from 50.00 % to 53.33 % when cutting length of 15 cm and cutting diameter of 1.0-1.5 cm with IBA @ 5000 ppm incubated for 18 days at 30oC. No results found.In S. Korea, a resource-poor country, forest developments have been continuous for industrial development and economic growth. In 2019, about 7,000 ha of forest are developed for construction of roads, factories, etc. Timber harvested in these sites are about 1,44 million tons per year. In the past, 97% of timber harvested in forest development sites were treated as waste, and the remaining 3% were transplanted into landscape trees. In 2017, a system(the sell by public auction) for the utilization of timber harvested in forest development sites was established, and that operated by Korea Forestry Promotion Institute(KoFPI). Through the system, various socio-economic values such as generation of sales revenue, reduction of waste treatment costs can be obtained. Currently, 44,000 tons of timber harvested in forest development sites have been sold by public auction, it generated about USD 4.24 million in socio-economic value, including sales revenue and reduction of waste treatment costs. The KoFPI is contributing to increasing the use of wood and revitalizing the wood industry by utilizing waste wood resources. Keywords: Economic Development ID: 3623098 -

No results found.The growth of plantation is dependent on a complex series of interactions between genetics and environmental factors, and the planting stocks including planting methods. For the successful establishment of a plantation, the economically effective means should be explored, as teak plantation is being established in Myanmar especially for commercial purposes including forest rehabilitation purposes. This study was conducted in the 12 years old Teak plantation that was established in compartment No. 24 of Ngalaik Reserved Forest and managed by Forest Research Institute. This plantation was established with different planting stocks; tissue culture seedling, shoot cutting seedling, potted seedling, fresh stump seedling, and grafted seedling in 2008. The main objective of this trial is to explore the growth performance of Teak plantation by applying the different planting stocks. Randomized completely block design (RCBD) was used with 5 replications (5 blocks). In one block, there are 5 plots in which totally of 49 trees were planted in each sub-plot with 2.7 m by 2.7 m spacing. There was a total of 1,225 planted trees in this trial. As a preliminary step, in 2019 through the measurement data, the total basal area of trial area (0.92 ha) is 16.46 m2 (17.89 m2 ha-1), the total volume is 96.47 m3 (104.86 m3 ha-1) [here calculated cone factor = 0.359822 is used], and mean annual increment (MAI) is 9.53 m3 ha-1 yr -1. Among the different planting stocks, the potted seedling plant was significantly better in growth as compared to those of other planting stocks, nonetheless, survival percentages among them were not significant. Now, we conduct this follow-up study to explore the growth performance of this 12 years old teak plantation of different planting stocks. We expect this study’s findings will be supported the useful and applicable information for the commercial plantation program to raising environmentally friendly and economically successful teak plantations.
