    Every year, up to 40 percent of the global food crops are lost due to plant pests with devastating consequences on food security, livelihoods and economies. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is a multilateral treaty signed by over 180 countries worldwide to protect plants and plant resources from pests and diseases. This brochure explains what the global plant health community is doing to prevent the introduction and spread of pests across borders and why the development of internationally harmonized measures and standards is so important to safeguard plants and agri-food products and facilitate safe trade worldwide.
