The project “Strengthening the adaptive capacity to climate change in the fisheries and aquaculture sector of Chile”, with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), sought to reduce the vulnerability and increase the adaptive capacity to climate change in the fisheries and aquaculture sector of Chile. Implemented in four remote coves, the project was geared towards coastal communities through high quality in-person participatory capacity building sessions, raising awareness about topics such as productive diversification, adaptation to climate change, aquaculture and tourism. Despite there being several changes in civil servants and government authorities, as well as certain delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest in the country, the project managed to progress towards the formulated objective, was relevant to the actual situation and suited to the needs of the beneficiaries. Lessons learned were also generated to improve the formulation and management of this type of project in the future. Notably, the evaluation found that climate change adaptation workshops have a high potential for replicability across different geographic settings in the region. -

This terminal evaluation covers the project "Mainstreaming ecosystem-based approaches to climate-resilient rural livelihoods in vulnerable rural areas through the farmer field school (FFS) methodology", funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The overall performance of the project is moderately satisfactory. The project is relevant in its response to climate change adaptation needs in Senegal. It is coherent in its design and is in phase with the Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE). The evaluation found that the project has contributed to capacity building of institutional actors and farmers organizations on climate change adaptation, resilience and gender equity. Notable results include: capacity building of technicians, relay producers, farmers and agro-pastoralists on good practices of adaptation to climate change, through the field-school approach; the establishment of a climate resilience fund that has allowed to finance micro-projects in rural area; the dissemination of agro-climatic information; trainings on adapted climate change practices at the farmfer field school (FFS) and agropastoral field school (APFS) level. -

No results found.This evaluation focused on the FAO technical assistance (TA) contribution to a large GAFSP funded agriculture and nutrition programme in Nepal. The project aimed to promote climate-sensitive agriculture, improve knowledge and skills in extension workers and 65 000 participating households, and improve linkages to value chains. The TA function was largely successful in building technical capacity, knowledge sharing, and community engagement through trained staff, quality learning materials, and expanded field school programs, with high female participation. there were some constraints in fragmented coordination and limited integration with local governance structures, affecting sustainability potential. Recommendations were made for similar future investments which focused on stronger integration with Local Governance Structures; improvements in operational efficiency and responsiveness; and better incorporation of inclusion and sustainability mechanisms.
