A Regional Workshop on the Promotion of the FAO Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held from 23 to 24 June 2025 in Panama City, Panama, ahead of the XIX meeting of the Commission on Small-Scale, Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture for Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPESAALC), to discuss and develop strategies to effectively implement the GSA in the region. Expect outputs are: A better understanding of the GSA and their relevance within the regional context; Priorities and challenges of aquaculture in the LAC region; A communication approach for the LAC region; List of LAC networks and stakeholders relevant for the implementation of the GSA; Recommendations for COPPESAALC, FAO andits Members to disseminate and implement the GSA; and FAO workshop report. -

No results found.The Regional Workshop on the Promotion of the FAO Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) in the Near East and North Africa, to be held on 3–4 November 2025 in Muscat, Oman, will bring together stakeholders to strengthen sustainable aquaculture in the region. The workshop will address key challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, governance gaps, and inclusivity, while promoting the GSA as a framework for policy, communication, and action. Participants will identify priorities, networks, and concrete steps, including updating National Aquaculture Development Plans, to enhance the sector’s contribution to food security, livelihoods, and the SDGs. -

No results found.As requested by Members, FAO is engaged in mainstreaming the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) into global, regional and national policies and strategic frameworks in close collaboration with both Members and key stakeholders.A key component of this initiative is the organization of Regional Promotion Workshops, which aim to increase the awareness of the GSA by encouraging engagement of national authorities to action on a plan for GSA implementation, sharing stories and experiences of good aquaculture practices, welcoming all value chain stakeholders in responsible and sustainable aquaculture sector development, and contributing to food, nutrition, livelihood and social development.
