Las últimas cifras apuntan a un 3 por ciento de incremento en la producción mundial de arroz con cáscara, que llegaría a 591 millones de toneladas en 2003 debido a un monzón favorable que ocasionaría el repunte de la producción en Asia. La recuperación se debe principalmente a la India, que en la temporada anterior se vio afectada por un clima poco favorable. También se prevén incrementos en Bangladesh, Camboya, Myanmar, Pakistán, en las Filipinas y en Tailandia. En contraste, la producción tendió a estancarse en Indonesia y Viet Nam, y a caer en China, Japón y la República de Corea...

NewsletterNewsletterSeguimiento del mercado del arroz - Enero de 2013 2013Desde noviembre de 2012, la FAO ha aumentado su pronóstico relativo a la producción mundial de arroz en 2012 en alrededor de 1,5 millones de toneladas a 730 millones de toneladas (487 millones de toneladas de arroz elaborado). Al acercarse el término de la campaña, muchas de las revisiones obedecen a las nuevas evaluaciones realizadas por los gobiernos de las cosechas recogidas o en pie.

However, less attention is being paid to the biodiversity beneath our feet, soil biodiversity, which drives many processes that produce food or purify soil and water. This report is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission. It presents concisely the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to it, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different fields. It also represents a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the importance of soil biodiversity and highlighting its role in finding solutions to today's global threats.
