No results found.The direct and indirect effects of climate change are altering aquatic ecosystems, driving changes in physical, chemical and biological processes, including changes in the distribution and abundance of species, and in the frequency and/or severity of extreme events. These changes are likely to have implications for fisheries and aquaculture, and could consequently impact food security and the livelihoods of millions of people worldwide. Evidence indicates that climate change impacts will be geographically uneven, calling for significant tailored support to assist developing countries, many of which are likely to be negatively affected the most, with how to make positive and cohesive adaptations that ultimately moderate potential loss and damage, or help them benefit from opportunities associated with climate change. Effective adaptation is a process of positive adjustment of policies, resource management, and associated systems, as well as building the capacity of communities and the private sector to prepare for and respond to climate change impacts. Against this background, the project aimed to improve the capacity of three selected countries, the Philippines, Saint Lucia and South Africa, to develop and implement effective climate change adaptation plans and actions that promoted socio economic development in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. -

No results found.IPCC Sixth Assessment Reports (AR6) emphasizes that minimizing trade-offs with respect to climate actions in AFOLU sector requires integrated approaches to meet multiple objectives including food security, and provides win-win options that can contribute to both enhanced productivity and climate benefits. Recognizing the valuable contributions of the agriculture sector to achieving emission reductions in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), many countries in Asia and Pacific included one or more actions in the agriculture sector in their latest NDCs. The Global Methane Pledge, launched at 26th Conference of the Parties (2021) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and joined by 150 countries, including countries in the Asian region, represents a global momentum for further collective actions for methane emissions reductions, including those from agriculture. The present project responded to the need to improve sustainable development and food security through enhanced country capacity to implement adaptation and mitigation actions across agricultural sectors. -

No results found.The Islamic Republic of Iran is experiencing a severe escalation of water scarcity, due to key drivers such as demographic growth, the tendency to increase food self-sufficiency, urbanization expansion, energy demand, and overall socio-economic development. This is further compounded by the negative impacts of climate change and the considerable degradation of water quality. In this context, Urmia Lake Basin (ULB), a vast hypersaline lake in the northwest of the country, has faced intense pressures over the last three decades and is in a state of ecological crisis, with major impacts on its biodiversity and socio-economic conditions. Since 2013, the Government has made an intensive and comprehensive effort to restore Urmia Lake; however, the condition of the lake was still critical and more support was required. Against this background, this project, funded by the Government of Japan, aimed to contribute to more sustainable, productive and climate-resilient agricultural and rural systems, with a positive impact on the environment and on the water balance (inflow-outflow) of Urmia Lake.
