No results found.The project was designed to address the following interlinked barriers preventing sustainable land and forest management outcomes and building resilience to climate change in Kyrgyz mountain ecosystems: inadequate legal framework for sustainable forest and land management, inadequate land tenure reforms, outdated approaches to sustainable forest and land management, and limited capacity of local institutions. The project’s overall objective is to enhance the enabling environment in the forestry and agricultural sectors and sustain the flow of ecosystem services, including enhancement of carbon stocks in forests and agro-ecosystems through the sustainable management and enhanced productivity of mountainous silvo-agro-pastoral ecosystems, and to improve productivity and mountain livelihoods in the Kyrgyz Republic. Overall, the evaluation rated the project as “moderately satisfactory”, with several examples of positive new approaches introduced by the project into forestry, agriculture and pasture management. The evaluation included specific recommendations not only to FAO, but also to the national forestry service. One of the innovative recommendations is to revisit the project sites in five to ten years to check certain success factors, such as the tree survival rates. -

This project was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Its objectives were to reverse the degradation of forest ecosystems, recover forest areas under degradation processes, mainly in the Imataca Forest Reserve, and promote the institutionalization of these activities in forest management at the national level. The project made a significant contribution in terms of generation and systematization of information; methodological developments to estimate carbon emissions, reservoirs and sequestration, and compilation of information for the National Integrated Forest Information System; strengthen institutional and community capacities, and promote the application of sustainable forest management practices under a co-management scheme. Important co-benefits were also generated, such as the creation of the Tukupu Community Social Property Company, which is the first Indigenous Peoples' forestry company established in the country, and the proposed Presidential Decree for the Creation of the National Forest Co-management System. -

No results found.Kyrgyz forests face severe degradation as a result of overharvesting for fuelwood and housing construction, overgrazing on forest lands, population growth and a lack of financial resources for forest management. A further threat to the sector is climate change, a factor that will define the future state of mountain ecosystems and increase environmental pressures on sensitive habitats. The aim of the project was to enhance the enabling environment in the forestry and agricultural sectors and to contribute to the sustainable management and enhanced productivity of mountainous agrosilvopastoral ecosystems and improved mountain livelihoods in the Kyrgyz Republic.

It is divided into sections focusing on matters regarding the workflow, visual identity, content and structure of FAO publications. In addition to FAOSTYLE in six languages, this guidance also includes: "Publishing policy", providing high-level guidance aimed at those involved in the creation or approval of a publishing plan; "Authorship and plagiarism guidelines", outlining the principles and criteria for authorship of FAO publications; "Graphic design guidelines", focusing on the practical application of FAO's visual identity and design standards; “Responsible use of AI in publishing”, covering how to use AI responsibly and ethically when producing a publication; “Open Access policy”, a summary of the policy that encourages the wide use, reproduction and dissemination of the intellectual property that FAO produces; and "Digital publishing", guidance on how to create a digital (HTML) publication.
