The vehicle for this desired development is technical and business management training of selected beneficiaries undertaken by a number of project trained trainers (TOTs) and a toolkit programme supporting the trainees (TOBs) in performing their acquired skills as em ployed or self-employed. -

No results found.The project “Support to agricultural livelihoods of rural and peri-urban returnees and communities in Nineveh Governorate, Iraq” was implemented from June 2019 to June 2023. The project was developed in response to the destruction of human, financial, physical and natural capital caused by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) conflict (2014-2017) in the Governorate of Nineveh.The evaluation found that the project is strongly aligned with national priorities, FAO's strategic objectives and the needs of Iraqi in peri-urban and rural communities. The project demonstrated elements of the humanitarian–development–peace (HDP) nexus, reinforcing national systems and likely enhancing social cohesion within communities. The project successfully introduced sustainable agricultural practices, including alternative fodder crops and livestock interventions as part of the dairy value chain, contributing to economic benefits for smallholder farmers and empowerment of women in rural communities. However, external and internal challenges persisted. In addition, the project successfully trained the Directorate of Agriculture, through its extension workers, and farmers in Nineveh Governorate, transferring knowledge. Moreover, efforts were made towards sustainability through strengthening partnerships, enhancing knowledge of stakeholders, developing a sense of ownership of the project, replicating a similar project in Iraq and contributing towards a more conducive environment. Despite these efforts, limited access to financial resources and environmental factors pose challenges to sustainability.Recommendations include continued emphasis on value chain development, enhanced monitoring efforts, and further implementation of the HDP approach to ensure sustained project impact and resilience in a fragile context.

En la Parte 2 se destaca la función de la FAO y sus asociados a la hora de impulsar los cambios para la transformación necesarios para apoyar la expansión e intensificación de la acuicultura, la ordenación eficaz de la pesca mundial y la actualización de las cadenas de valor acuáticas. La Parte 3 abarca los desafíos de alto impacto y las oportunidades para aprovechar el potencial inexplorado de utilizar pescado entero y subproductos para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición, describe la función de los sistemas alimentarios acuáticos a la hora de aportar soluciones vitales relacionadas con el clima y la biodiversidad y ecológicamente adecuadas, y destaca la importancia de su integración en los procesos nacionales y multilaterales. Asimismo, presenta una perspectiva sobre las tendencias futuras hasta 2032 basándose en previsiones.El estado mundial de la pesca y la acuicultura 2024 proporciona la información más actualizada y basada en datos objetivos, que respalda las normas políticas, científicas y técnicas sobre desafíos, oportunidades e innovaciones que determinan el presente y el futuro del sector, para beneficio de un público amplio y cada vez mayor de encargados de formular políticas, personal directivo, científicos, pescadores, acuicultores, comerciantes, activistas de la sociedad civil y consumidores. -

2020As the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011–2020 comes to a close and countries prepare to adopt a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, this edition of The State of the World’s Forests (SOFO) examines the contributions of forests, and of the people who use and manage them, to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Forests cover just over 30 percent of the global land area, yet they provide habitat for the vast majority of the terrestrial plant and animal species known to science. No results found.This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste.
