Synopsis (short abstract) Se evaluó el efecto del árbol maderable Acacia mangium sobre la productividad y calidad forrajera de pasturas de Brachiaria humidicola en un suelo ácido con alta saturación de Al. B. humidicola tuvo menor concentración de proteína cruda (32 vs 46 g kg -1) y solubilidad (52 vs 58%) en monocultivo que en el asocio. El rendimiento total de forraje del zacate en asocio fue 28% mayor que en monocultivo. En la época seca, la biomasa muerta del pasto representó el 60% de la biomasa total en monocultivo , pero solo el 30% del zacate en el asocio. La relación hoja : tallo fue mayor en asocio. Se concluye que la integración de A. mangium en sistemas silvopastoriles con B. humidicola mejora el rendimiento y el valor nutritivo de las pasturas.

    Se estudió el efecto de Acacia mangium, a baja y a alta densidad (120 y 240 árboles ha-1, respectivamente), en las concentraciones de P total, P orgánico y P disponible en el suelo de pasturas de Brachiaria humidicola en Calabacito, Panamá. Las concentraciones de P total y P disponible fueron más bajas (P < 0.05) en la época seca que en la húmeda (227 vs 259 y 1.7 vs 3.7 mg l-1, respectivamente); no se detectaron cambios en el P orgánico entre estaciones. Las concentraciones de P en el suelo en todas sus formas, fueron mayores en: 1) las pasturas con árboles que en la pastura en monocultivo; y 2) alta que a baja densidad de A. mangium. Se concluye que la integración de A. mangium en pasturas de B. humidicola mejoró significativamente los niveles de P en el suelo.

    Se estudió el efecto de dos especies arbóreas (Acacia mangium y Eucalyptus deglupta) sobre la productividad y eficiencia del uso de radiación (EUR) en tres gramíneas (Brachiaria brizantha, B. decumbens y Panicum maximum) en Guápiles, provincia de Limón, Costa Rica. La especie de mayor producción de materia seca, energía metabolizable y proteína cruda fue P. maximum, que superó a B. brizantha y B. decumbens (34.8, 19.2 y 14.0 t MS ha-1 año-1; 12.3, 5.9 y 4.0 Gcal ha-1 ciclo-1; 533, 298 y 201 kg P C ha-1 ciclo-1, respectivamente). La eficiencia del uso de radiación (EUR) fue mayor en las áreas sombreadas que en las expuestas al sol. P.maximum fue la gramínea de mayor EUR, respecto a B. brizantha y B. decumbens (3.6, 1.8 y 1.4 g MS MJ-1).

    El índice de sombra, las condiciones edafológicas y la composición florística del pastizal determinaron el rendimiento de las pasturas en 22 sitios silvopastoriles distribuidos entre dos localidades en Costa Rica. El rendimiento de pasturas no mejoradas bajo sombra de árboles frutales fue significativamente menor que a pleno sol. Pasturas mejoradas bajo sombra abierta de árboles maderables, como Cordia alliodora, produjeron igual que a pleno sol.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
