No results found.Cereal prices are steady or declining in recent months, however they remain high compared to historic levels. Border tensions have not decreased. Moreover floods have damaged crops and affected people's livelihoods. An estimated 5.2 million people still depend on emergency food assistance and agencies agree on a severe situation of high hunger in the long term. The Government continues to support producers and vulnerable people through safety net programmes; in addition it has lifted the e xport ban on sorghum and maize. -

No results found.In recent months cereal prices have continued to follow a gradually decreasing trend and maize prices in the capital city were lower than prices on the international market. Pockets of food insecurity exist due to different localized shocks such as poor rains in the southeast or floods in Amhara region, while tensions with rebel groups continue. Food security is improving throughout the country, and the number of people in need of food assistance during the last months of the year decr eased to 2.3 million. The government with the help of international agencies is continuing to assist the population while investing in agricultural production to increase food security. -

This is being achieved through a series of interlinked activities in the seven project sites in Africa (Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia) and in I ndia (Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal).

The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge. -

No results found.This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste.
