Synopsis (short abstract) This Fruit and Vegetable Industry Report 2022, provides an overview and general information and insight into the fruit and vegetable sector in the EAEU member countries. The objective of the sector analysis is to give a quantitative and qualitative description of the fruits and vegetable sector trends with a special focus on the need for investments and development assistance. The key expected outputs of the report include the following: - Review report on performance, structural characteristics of the fruit and vegetables sector, government policy for the sector at state and entity level, and current investments in the sector by government and development partners. - SWOT analysis of the fruit and vegetables sector, major constraints and opportunities for development, and identification of capacity strengthening needs in the sector. - Recommendations of capacity strengthening needs and proposed interventions for the development of the fruit and vegetables sector.

    By invitation of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, FAO has conducted a rapid appraisal of the quality management systems for fruits, vegetables and pork meat in China and Hong Kong. This working document presents the findings of the mission. It gives a rapid appraisal of the different quality management systems elaborated by both public and private sectors to manage the food quality standards investigated during the mission. It presents the results of a SWOT analysis by different stakehol ders of the supply chains investigated by the appraisal mission. The document also reports the findings of a national workshop of Chinese experts convened by the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO to clarify the structure of the food quality management system in China and to propose actions to be initiated in order to face the threats confronted by the food quality management system, as identified by the SWOT analysis.

    Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat, that has been exacerbated by the inappropriate and excessive use of antimicrobials, especially in the human and livestock-related food-producing sectors. The Regional Legal Report presents the results of an analysis of the national legislation relevant to antimicrobial use (AMU) and AMR in the food and agriculture sector that has been conducted in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The document discusses the findings of the legal analysis, gives recommendations for addressing weaknesses and formulates proposals for improving existing legislation in each country, with the ultimate goal of limiting the imprudent use of antimicrobials, and therefore decreasing the spread of AMR in food and agriculture.
