This note illustrates the concept behind the two Independent Food Systems Summit Dialogues co-organized by FAO, CIHEAM, UfMS, One Planet Network SFS Programme and PRIMA Foundation that will take place on 27 April and 3 June 2021. In line with the Summit's vision, principles and Action Tracks, these two events aim at highlighting collaborative and science-based pathways leading to the transformation of food systems in the Mediterranean towards the achievement of the SDGs. These dialogues foresee the active involvement and engagement of a wide diversity of stakeholders, coming together to jointly identify concrete and cross-cutting solutions to face Mediterranean-specific challenges by means of a Sustainable Food Systems silos-breaking approach. The two Dialogues are co-organized within the framework of the FAO/CIHEAM/UfMS MoU, the FAO/PRIMA MoU, and project GCP/INT/748/ITA. They will contribute to promoting food systems transformation in the Mediterranean, in line with the "4 Betters" of the new strategic framework of FAO. These dialogues are bringing together key partners in the Mediterranean region and are foreseen to set the stage for the inception of a multi-stakeholder initiative for SFS in the Mediterranean co-led by FAO, CIHEAM and UfM.
