No results found.For well over a decade, developing countries have been encouraged to undertake activities in their forest sectors that are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also working to conserve, enhance and sustainably manage forest carbon stocks. These activities are known collectively as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD+), which was established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This publicatio n provides a status report on progress and achievements related to the MRV of REDD+ activities, as well as an update on activities related to countries’ submissions of their Forest Reference (Emission) Levels (FRELs/FRLs). The report also summarizes experiences with the technical assessment process, as of early 2017, and offers an overview of initial REDD+ results reporting and technical analyses of those reports. Highlights of this report include measures that show a strong uptake of FREL/FRLs among tropical forest countries. FREL/FRLs which have already been submitted involve many of the countries with the largest forest areas, and cover vast amounts of emissions from their forest sectors. There is also progress in areas that are not as easy to quantify: for example, an unprecedented level of transparency has been achieved concerning countries’ forest-sector data and information, thanks to data reporting in the context of REDD+. -

No results found.One hundred scientists, economists and policy experts participated in a three-day expert meeting (EM) to engage in a high-level, globally oriented, and multidisciplinary scoping of topics that climate change to land use and food security. The EM was structured around five themes: climate impacts and human-directed drivers of land change and linkages to food security; mitigation and adaptation options; and policies for resource management, smallholder resilience, mitigation and food and nutrition security. The present report offers a comprehensive synthesis of the EM findings and conclusions reflecting the collective view participants and external reviewers. The report is a valuable source for the IPCC above-mentioned Special Report, especially in relation to food security, as well to researchers and policy makers concerned with the policy implication of food security in relation to post-Paris climate action and Agenda 2030. -

This report is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission. It presents concisely the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to it, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different fields. It also represents a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the importance of soil biodiversity and highlighting its role in finding solutions to today's global threats. -
