No results found.Fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants are fundamental, essential and indispensable foods eaten by people around the world as part of healthy diets, cultural heritage and culinary tradition. Small-scale artisanal fisher and fish farmers produce a large portion of this food. The International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) 2022 was an opportunity to highlight the importance of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture for our food systems, livelihoods, culture and the environment. This report provides a summary overview of the objectives, activities and recommendations of the IYAFA 2022. It aims to motivate relevant stakeholders to ensure that the end of the Year is the beginning of a new era of support for small-scale fisheries and aquaculture. -

IYAFA 2022 aims to highlight the importance of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture to our food systems, livelihoods, culture and the environment; to increase global understanding and action to support small-scale artisanal fish folks; and to enhance their participation in policy and decision-making that shape their everyday lives.
