    This book represents the proceedings of the First International Multi-stakeholder Symposium on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: Technical Consultation on in situ conservation and on-farm management of PGRFA, held virtually on 29 and 30 March 2021. The proceedings provide a record of the Symposium, including the opening and welcome addresses and the four sessions: 1) challenges and opportunities for sustainably managing crop diversity; 2) in situ conservation of crop wild relatives and wild food plants; 3) on-farm management of farmers’ varieties/landraces; and, 4) creating communities of practice. The Symposium highlighted the current state of knowledge and the enabling environment for in situ conservation and on-farm management of PGRFA. It contributed to an increased understanding of the role and importance of in situ conservation of crop wild relatives and wild food plants, and on-farm management of farmers’ varieties/landraces. The Symposium provided a forum for the exchange of information and experiences among experts, practitioners and other stakeholders.

    Par le biais du Programme-cadre de la FAO pour la promotion et l’application des Directives volontaires visant à assurer la durabilité de la pêche artisanale dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire et de l’éradication de la pauvreté (programme-cadre FAO SSF), nous sensibilisons le public aux difficultés et aux opportunités de la pêche artisanale, nous renforçons l’interface science-politique en générant de meilleures informations sur la pêche artisanale, nous autonomisons les organisations de pêcheurs et de travailleurs du secteur de la pêche, nous augmentons les connaissances, les compétences et les capacités des gouvernements, et nous soutenons la mise en oeuvre des Directives SSF en créant un environnement favorable. Les Directives volontaires visant à assurer la durabilité de la pêche artisanale dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire et de l’éradication de la pauvreté (Directives sur la pêche artisanale) sont le premier instrument approuvé au niveau international entièrement consacré au secteur de la pêche artisanale. Elles complètent d’autres instruments et initiatives mondiaux visant à mettre en place une pêche artisanale durable grâce à une approche fondée sur les droits de l’homme. Leur mise en oeuvre peut par exemple servir de tremplin à la réalisation des Objectifs de développement durable (ODD) d’ici 2030, en particulier de l’ODD 14.b: «Garantir aux petits artisans l’accès aux ressources marines et aux marchés».
