En este número del Boletín del Departamento de Gestión de RecursosNaturales y Medio Ambiente nos complace anunciar que las Naciones Unidas han declarado el año 2012 Año Internacional de la Energía Sostenible para Todos. Esta celebración representa una oportunidad de concentrar la atención mundial en los desafíos a que deben hacer frente tanto los países desarrollados como los países en desarrollo a la hora de abordar el acceso a la energía y los problemas relacionados con el uso eficiente de las fuentes energéticas sostenibles. También analizamos un interesante proyecto de tenencia de la tierra con el cual se persigue introducir, por medio de un programa informático de código abierto, la tecnología avanzada en los sistemas de registro de la propiedad en los países en desarrollo. Por último, revisamos las lecciones aprendidas y los principales logros de un exitoso proyecto de gestión hídrica transfronteriza realizado en la cuenca del Nilo. -

No results found.Según los datos del Balance Energético Nacional realizado en la Argentina en el año 2008, el 90% de la oferta total de energía primaria procedía de combustibles fósiles. Se identificó un aumento progresivo del consumo de combustibles líquidos fósiles para la producción de electricidad, con un impacto ambiental negativo como consecuencia de las emisiones contaminantes de gases de efecto invernadero. El Proyecto para la promoción de la energía derivada de biomasa (PROBIOMASA) busca incrementar el suministro de energía renovable y competitiva a través de la producción de energía derivada de biomasa a nivel local. PROBIOMASA incrementó la participación de la bioenergía en la matriz energética nacional y local. Sin embargo, los costes de generación energética derivada de la biomasa son elevados en comparación con otras energías renovables, y la ventaja competitiva de la bioenergía radica en las externalidades positivas que ésta genera. Estos beneficios deberían estar más integrados en el diseño de proyectos futuros.

No results found.In the 12 years since the first Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study was completed in 1998, the region has experienced tremendous changes in nearly every aspect. These changes have been particularly profound in the forestry sector, where society has dramatically increased its demands and expanded its expectation of forests and forestry. This subregional report for the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) summarizes the key findings and results collated under the second Asia-Pacific Forestry S ector Outlook Study - a comprehensive effort spanning nearly four years and involving all member countries of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission. The current report synthesizes observations and findings from five GMS country reports, numerous thematic reports and a wide ranging review of current and past publications in providing analyses of the status and trends of forests and forestry in the GMS. The publication also analyses key factors driving changes in forestry in the region and sets out four scenarios for 2020: Hard times, Slow and steady, Overburn and Living on the edge. The report also outlines priorities and strategies to move the subregion's forestry sector onto a more sustainable footing and to provide continued benefits to future generations. -

Urbanization, agrifood systems transformation and healthy diets across the rural–urban continuum
2023This report provides an update on global progress towards the targets of ending hunger (SDG Target 2.1) and all forms of malnutrition (SDG Target 2.2) and estimates on the number of people who are unable to afford a healthy diet. Since its 2017 edition, this report has repeatedly highlighted that the intensification and interaction of conflict, climate extremes and economic slowdowns and downturns, combined with highly unaffordable nutritious foods and growing inequality, are pushing us off track to meet the SDG 2 targets. However, other important megatrends must also be factored into the analysis to fully understand the challenges and opportunities for meeting the SDG 2 targets. One such megatrend, and the focus of this year’s report, is urbanization. New evidence shows that food purchases in some countries are no longer high only among urban households but also among rural households. Consumption of highly processed foods is also increasing in peri-urban and rural areas of some countries. These changes are affecting people’s food security and nutrition in ways that differ depending on where they live across the rural–urban continuum. This timely and relevant theme is aligned with the United Nations General Assembly-endorsed New Urban Agenda, and the report provides recommendations on the policies, investments and actions needed to address the challenges of agrifood systems transformation under urbanization and to enable opportunities for ensuring access to affordable healthy diets for everyone.
