ProjectEuropean Union (EU) Integration and Policy Support in Agriculture and Rural Development - TCP/ALB/3802 2025
Also available in:
No results found.Albania was granted European Union (EU) candidate status in June 2014. As part of the European Council’s conclusions of June 2019, the country was expected to conduct several development processes to enhance the agricultural sector to align national policies to modern EU standards, laying the groundwork for the full implementation of the European instrument for pre accession assistance for rural development (IPARD). However, the agricultural system in Albania is mainly formed by small and family farms that operate with a low level of mechanization, and there is a lack of policy analysis, data collection systems, such as farm accountancy data networks (FADN) and reporting mechanisms, which are required to evaluate progress towards the achievement of the SDGs. To address these challenges and continue preparing the EU-membership candidature, this project was designed to i) assist in completing the legal framework for organic products, wine by-laws, quality policy and seed and seedling by-laws, ii) advice on how to improve agricultural registries (for wine, for instance), develop an FADN action plan and adopt an EU-aligned FADN system in Albania, and iii) increase institutional capacities to provide an appropriate response while implementing EU funds for rural development (IPARD funds). -
ProjectImplementation Support to the Development of Ethiopia’s Agro-Commodity Procurement Zones (Under the Hand-In-Hand Initiative) - TCP/ETH/3802 2023
Also available in:
No results found. The Government of Ethiopia has identified the potential of agro-industrialization to lead a structural transformation of the economy and a modernization of the agriculture sector, fostering improved production and productivity of crops and livestock, as well as an increased commercialization of strategic agro-commodities. This approach is expected to make markets available for smallholder farmers to sell their produce, contributing to increased incomes, creating off-farm employment in processing and services (particularly for youths) and economic opportunities for SMEs, thus contributing to the reduction of poverty in rural areas. -
ProjectSupport to Agriculture Sector Strategic Review and Development towards 2030 and 2050 - TCP/CMB/3801 2023

No results found.Agriculture is one of Cambodia's main economic drivers and a source of employment for about 42 percent of the population. However, agricultural growth has slowed in recent years due to several factors, including limited land expansion, slower productivity growth, limited diversification, price volatility, low investment in agroprocessing and the impact of natural disasters. Significant opportunities exist in Cambodia to expand and increase production of a variety of commodities that have been identified as having the potential to generate greater profits. In this context of rapid developments in the sector, there is a need for more quality strategic information and analysis in agriculture. Meanwhile, Cambodia is increasingly challenged to balance growing and competing demands for natural resources, including land and water, across sectors (urbanization, industry and agriculture). In this sense, understanding the current state of water and land use in the country is a key step to inform sound policy development, programming, financing and sustainable development and management of land and water resources.
