Synopsis (short abstract) This case study presents an independent consultant assessment of the gender impact of RFLP activities conducted in inshore coastal fisher communities in 9 municipalities and 2 cities of Zamboag del Norte province, Mindao Island in the Philippines. The report includes an overview of the context, details of the interventions, gives the results, implementation problems, and recommendations and key lessons learned which should be of interest to other rural development practitioners be they governmen t, NGO's or donor agencies.

    This report examines the potential of using mass media to enhance the access of poor rural households and women to educational opportunities. It underlines the importance for the mass media to create conditions and mechanisms whereby people have genuine access to media. The successful and innovative experience of the Bayanihan Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) in the municipality of Infanta in Quezon Province in the Philippines is documented through a case study that describes the BBC’s innovative community-based radio broadcasting model, which has been effectively used to promote sustainable agriculture. The study develops a framework for a community-based radio distance learning system (CBR-DLS) which can serve as a helpful guide to assist with the planning and implementation of radio based distance learning programmes elsewhere.

    This report is part of a larger study that seeks to identify the knowledge gaps around gender in the forest sectors of Côte d’Ivoire, Viet Nam and Honduras by assessing the role of women in wood-based value chains and identifying possible interventions or recommendations to reduce gender disparities during VPA negotiations and implementation. This study seeks to complement the emerging body of work on the topic of gender (Forest Trends, 2019; SRD, 2020) in the VPA, by presenting a specific case study on the role of women in the wood supply chain of La Xuyen wood village, in Nam Dinh province, Viet Nam and exploring how the VPA could promote and strengthen gender mainstreaming in Viet Nam using this example.
