2014Los bosques del Mediterráneo están entrelazados con las vidas de la gente de la región. Son proveedores de madera, corcho y otros productos, y para muchas personas son además fuente de ingresos. Los bosques contribuyen a la conservación de la biodiversidad; capturan y almacenan el carbono, protegen el suelo y el agua y ofrecen lugares para el esparcimiento. Sin embargo, están sometidos a presiones siempre mayores. Entre estas están las ejercidas por los seres humanos, cuyas necesidades son cada vez más imperiosas y fluctuantes, y el estrés debido al cambio climático, en especial el aumento de la temperatura, la escasez de lluvias y las sequías prolongadas. Esto hace que sea aún más importante adoptar un criterio holístico al considerar los bienes y servicios que proveen los bosques mediterráneos y definir soluciones sostenidas e integradoras.
