Book (stand-alone)Consumer organizations and the right to adequate food
Making the connections
2021Consumers are a powerful force for change towards a sustainably developing world that leaves no one behind and respects the human rights of all. This publication is aimed at making the connections between the important work of consumer organizations and the realization of the right to adequate food, increasing the visibility of these organizations and highlighting their importance to food security, healthy diets and food systems transformations. It is also intended to support consumer organizations in their awareness raising, and capacity development efforts towards even greater impact. In showcasing how the work of consumer organizations contributes towards securing the right to adequate food for all at local, national, regional and global level, it seeks to reinforce their place as vital partners at the policy and decisionmaking table. It is designed as a complement to Consumer Organizations in Action: a growing community of consumer organizations, presenting their experiences in food issues, as well as facilitating networking, and the exchange of knowledge, skills and good practices. -
Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetImpact of COVID-19 on the human right to adequate food in the Pacific Region 2022
Also available in:
No results found. The COVID-19 crisis is exacerbating food insecurity and malnutrition in the Pacific region as measures to halt the spread of the virus have had unintended impacts on people’s lives, such as rising unemployment and poverty. Moreover, lockdowns and mobility restrictions cause disruptions in trade within and between States, reducing the availability and accessibility of adequate food, and threatening the sustainability of agrifood systems. Urgent steps are needed to address food insecurity for the poorest and most marginalized. Measures aimed at providing immediate support to satisfy people’s dietary needs should be put in place, including the provision of food and nutrition assistance. -
Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetRight to adequate food
Strategic Objective 1 brief - major area of work
2015Also available in:
No results found. The right to food is centered on the individual. It leads to a reconsideration of the root causes of hunger and malnutrition. As such, it goes further than considering WHAT the problem is by analyzing WHY it is happening. Hence, it raises questions such as what are the underlying reasons that people still suffer from poverty and hunger in a world of plenty? Or, why do public policies fail to reach and be beneficial to the poorest and most vulnerable in society? And, why do discrimination and the lack of legal protection still persist?
