    Hoy en día, la agricultura se enfrenta a una presión cada vez mayor por proporcionar alimentos suficientes, asequibles y nutritivos a una población en crecimiento, así como por lidiar con el cambio climático y la degradación de los recursos naturales, en particular la escasez de agua, el agotamiento del suelo y la pérdida de biodiversidad. Las generalizadas y persistentes desigualdades entre las zonas Rurales y urbanas han llevado a un nivel de urbanización sin precedentes. Para alimentar al mundo de forma sostenible, se precisa un cambio urgente y radical en nuestros sistemas alimentarios. Las medidas transformadoras solamente serán eficaces si abordan un complejo conjunto de objetivos interconectados que abarcan dimensiones económicas, sociales y medioambientales. Los agricultores familiares son cruciales en esta cuestión. Proporcionan la mayor parte de los alimentos del mundo, son los principales inversores en la agricultura y constituyen la columna vertebral de la estructura económica rural. El Plan de acción mundial del DNUAF proporciona orientación detallada para la comunidad internacional sobre medidas iniciativas colectivas, coherentes e integrales destinadas a respaldar a los agricultores familiares. Define un planteamiento integral que favorece el trabajo dirigido a cumplir los ODS en el contexto del ejercicio progresivo del derecho a una alimentación adecuada. El Plan de acción mundial, diseñado en torno a siete pilares de trabajo que se refuerzan mutuamente, recomienda una serie de medidas interconectadas que abarcan desde la escala local hasta la mundial. Toda intervención diseñada durante el Decenio debe tener en cuenta siempre la diversidad de los agricultores familiares.

    FAO establishes and publishes specifications* for technical material and related formulations of agricultural pesticides, with the objective that these specifications may be used to provide an international point of reference against which products can be judged either for regulatory purposes or in commercial dealings. From 1999 onward, the development of FAO specifications follows the New Procedure, described first in the 5th edition of the "Manual on the development and use of FAO specifications for plant protection products" and later in the 1st edition of “Manual for Development and Use of FAO and WHO Specifications for Pesticides” (2002) - currently available as 3rd revision of the 1st edition (2016), which is available only on the internet through the FAO and WHO web sites. This New Procedure follows a formal and transparent evaluation process. It describes the minimum data package, the procedure and evaluation applied by FAO and the experts of the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Specifications (JMPS).
