    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.

    El comercio mundial de productos agrícolas y alimentarios ha crecido rápidamente en las últimas décadas, con el aumento de los países en este comercio, como exportadores o importadores. Se prevé que esta tendencia continúe durante los próximos decenios. En consecuencia, el comercio desempeñará un papel cada vez más importante al influir en el alcance y la naturaleza de la seguridad alimentaria en todas las regiones del planeta. El desafío, por lo tanto, consiste en asegurarse de que la expansión del comercio agrícola contribuya, y no perjudique, a la eliminación del hambre, la inseguridad alimentaria y la malnutrición. El objetivo de la presente edición de El estado de los mercados de productos básicos agrícolas es de reducir la actual polarización de las opiniones sobre los efectos del comercio agrícola en la seguridad alimentaria y la manera en que este debería gobernarse para conseguir que una mayor apertura al comercio beneficie a todos los países.
