Hasta ahora la SMPB se centraba principalmente en el análisis de las novedades que se presentaban en los mercados de productos básicos, acompañado de una descripción de la situación en curso y de las perspectivas a corto plazo. En esta nueva edición se incluyen cinco artícul os analíticos que se proyectan más allá de la situación y las perspectivas actuales para explicar con mayor detalle algunas de las consecuencias de los factores que configuran la evolución del mercado de productos básicos y algunas cuestiones de actualidad en materia de política. En la presente edición hay artículos sobre las tendencias a largo plazo de los precios de los productos alimentarios básicos, la influencia de los precios del petróleo en los de los productos agropecuarios, las crestas arancelarias y las fórmulas de reducción de los aranceles, los déficit y excedentes alimentarios africanos, y las repercusiones del Acuerdo sobre la Agricultura de la Ronda Uruguay.

2000En virtud de su mandato de prestar asistencia a los países miembros para las actividades complementarias de la Ronda Uruguay y las futuras negociaciones sobre la agricultura, la FAO ha desplegado una amplia gama de iniciativas destinadas a mejorar la capacidad, particularmente de los países en desarrollo, de analizar las consecuencias de los Acuerdos de la Ronda Uruguay para el sector agropecuario, efectuar los ajustes correspondientes al nuevo entorno comercial con el fin de poder sacar provech o de las oportunidades de comercialización, y participar eficazmente en las futuras negociaciones comerciales multilaterales. El Plan de Acción de la Cumbre Mundial sobre la Alimentación de 1996 compromete a la FAO a continuar prestando asistencia a los países en desarrollo en las cuestiones referentes al comercio y en particular

No results found.Global climate studies show that not only temperatures are increasing and precipitation levels are becoming more varied, all projections indicate these trends will continue. It is therefore imperative that we understand changes in climate over agricultural areas and their impacts on agriculture production and food security. This study presents new analysis on the impact of changing climate on agriculture and food security, by examining the evidence on recent climate variability and extremes over agricultural areas and the impact of these on agriculture and food security. It shows that more countries are exposed to increasing climate variability and extremes and the frequency (the number of years exposed in a five-year period) and intensity (the number of types of climate extremes in a five-year period) of exposure over agricultural areas have increased. The findings of this study are compelling and bring urgency to the fact that climate variability and extremes are proliferating and intensifying and are contributing to a rise in global hunger. The world’s 2.5 billion small-scale farmers, herders, fishers, and forest-dependent people, who derive their food and income from renewable natural resources, are most at risk and affected. Actions to strengthen the resilience of livelihoods and food systems to climate variability and extremes urgently need to be scaled up and accelerated. -
