No results found.The project addressed the critical need for sustainable development in rural communities across Europe and Central Asia (ECA), aligning with SDGs 1 (No Poverty) and 2 (Zero Hunger). In the ECA region, nearly one-third of the population resided in rural areas, where small family farms dominated the agricultural sector. Despite some progress, these areas continued to suffer from significantly lower income levels compared to urban areas. Challenges included limited access to resources such as land, finances, and technology, as well as a lack of entities capable of providing training on sustainable agricultural practices and disseminating knowledge to communities and governments. The COVID-19 crisis further highlighted the need for stronger local production systems, shorter value chains, and enhanced resilience of smallholders through nature-based solutions and agroecology. -

En Afrique de l’Ouest, l’agriculture familiale emploie environ 62 pour cent de la population active et fournit l’essentiel des produits agricoles (primaires et transformés) pour l’alimentation des populations et les besoins de l’industrie agroalimentaire. Pourtant, la visibilité et la reconnaissance du rôle fondamental de l’agriculture familiale dans la lutte contre la pauvreté et l’insécurité alimentaire, bien qu’évidente, ne sont pas suffisamment prises en compte dans les programmes d’investissement des pays. C’est la raison pour laquelle les Nations Unies ont proclamé en décembre 2017 une Décennie des Nations Unies pour l’agriculture familiale (DNUAF 2019-2028) pour placer l’agriculture familiale au centre des priorités internationales pendant une période de dix ans. Un Plan d’action mondial de mise en œuvre de la DNUAF a été conçu pour développer des actions concrètes et coordonnées visant à relever les défis auxquels se heurtent les exploitants familiaux, renforcer leur capacité d’investissement et tirer pleinement parti de leur contribution. -

No results found.This book is an output of a regional experts’ consultation meeting on “UN Decade of Family Farming: Formulating Strategies and Action Plan to Strengthen Smallholder Family Farmers in South Asia”, 5-6 November 2020 organized by SAARC Agriculture Center (SAC), Bangladesh in collaboration with Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA), Philippines, and the International Cooperative Alliance Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP), India, and the technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP) Thailand. This book is the concrete result of active engagement and participations of SAARC Member States’ National Focal Point Experts, invited UNDFF experts, authors, and participants. This book focuses on- family farming’s constraints, challenges, opportunities, and government policies to contribute on attaining the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at country and South Asia regional levels. -
