DocumentOther documentStock assessment for the round herring (Etrumeus teres) caught by purse seine in the Gulf of Suez 1984
Also available in:
No results found. This report describes an assessment of the round herring stock based on catch sampling undertaken during the seasons of 1979/80, 1980/81 and 1981/82. Spawning was shown to occur from January through May in each year; and first sexual maturity to occur several months prior to age 2 years. The recruitment of young fish was concluded as taking place between seasons. Yield per recruit estimations indicated that increases above the contemporary levels of fishing effort would be associated with reduce d annual catches; while substantial reductions in fishing effort would be associated with only small consequential decreases in catch. Reductions in the duration of the fishing season while maintaining the fishing efforts constant, were shown likely to be associated with increased catches -
DocumentOther documentStock assessment for the goldstripe sardinella (Sardinella gibbosa) caught by purse seine from the Gulf of Suez and more southern Red Sea waters 1984
Also available in:
No results found. The UNDP/FAO Project for the Development of Fisheries in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden RAB/83/028 (previously RAB/77/008 and RAB/81/002) commenced a joint biological study of the Gulf of Suez and Egyptian Red Sea fisheries during late 1979. Emphasis was directed towards the collection and analysis of data relevent to assessing the state of the fish stocks, and providing an improved basis for the management of the fisheries. This report contains the fifth of a series of stock assessments based on these data. It deals with the Goldstripe sardinella which is caught by purse seine principally from the Gulf of Suez, but also from more southern waters off the Egyptian Red Sea coast. During the study period the Goldstripe sardinella contributed up to 15% of the purse seine catches from the Gulf of Suez; and up to 20% of the catches from the more southern ground within and adjacent to Foul Bay. -
DocumentOther documentCatches, fishing efforts, catches per fishing effort, and fishing locations for the Gulf of Suez and Egyptian Red Sea coast purse seine fishery during 1979 to 1982 1984
Also available in:
No results found. This report presents a collation of data describing the monthly catch weights by important species groups, the associated fishing efforts and catch weights per unit effort, and the fishing locations, for a period of three years from 1979 to 1982. Data collection involved catch enumeration at the landing sites by employees of the Department of Agriculture, and the interviewing of skippers for details of fishing efforts and fishing locations by Project personnel and counterparts.

BookletHigh-profileFAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

BookletCorporate general interestEmissions due to agriculture
Global, regional and country trends 2000–2018
2021Also available in:
No results found. The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018. -
Book (series)Technical reportSmall-scale fisheries: assessing their contribution to rural livelihoods in developing countries. 2006
Also available in:
No results found.Traditionally, the contribution, role and importance of small-scale fisheries have often been described in thematic terms such as economic, social, employment and source of food. However, the contributions of small-scale fisheries are often interlinked and interdependent and some of their major contributions lie at the interface between these themes/sectors rather than within each. Also some of the major contributions to small-scale fisheries result from the synergies between various domains par ticularly economic and social aspects as conventionally recognized. In keeping with the vision for small-scale fisheries as proposed by the Advisory Committee on Fisheries Research (ACFR) Working Party on Small-scale Fisheries, it would seem appropriate to give in any such analysis due regard to the evolving concepts of food security, poverty alleviation, rural and economic development as well as the environmental and cultural dimensions of small-scale fisheries. The analysis incorporates these various concepts and moves away from the more conventional sector type or thematic approach.
