El proyecto “Producción ganadera climáticamente inteligente y restauración del suelo en pastizales uruguayos” es una iniciativa financiada por el Fondo para el Medio Ambiente Mundial y ejecutada por el Ministerio de Ganadería, Agricultura y Pesca entre febrero de 2018 y septiembre 2023. Su objetivo fue “Mitigar el cambio climático y restaurar tierras degradadas a través de la promoción de prácticas climáticamente inteligentes en el sector ganadero, con énfasis en la agricultura familiar”.Los resultados de la evaluación destacan que, como consecuencia de la ejecución del proyecto, se generaron productos y se obtuvieron resultados que aportan al objetivo planteado. Se generó evidencia de que, con la metodología de trabajo probada en los beneficiarios, es posible establecer sistemas de producción ganadera sostenibles ambientalmente sin condicionar la productividad ni afectar los réditos económicos de la actividad. Además, el proyecto propuso, a través de los instrumentos de política pública elaborados, un camino institucional para lograr replicar y escalar esta experiencia. -

La implementación y ejecución ha estado bajo la responsabilidad de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y su coejecución a cargo del Ministerio de Ganadería, Agricultura y Pesca. Su objetivo fue mitigar el cambio climático y restaurar tierras degradadas a través de la promoción de prácticas climáticamente inteligentes en el sector ganadero, con énfasis en la agricultura familiar.

Safeguarding against economic slowdowns and downturns
2019This year’s report presents evidence that the absolute number of people who suffer from hunger continues to slowly increase. The report also highlights that food insecurity is more than just hunger. For the first time, the report provides evidence that many people in the world, even if not hungry, experience moderate food insecurity as they face uncertainties about their ability to obtain food and are forced to compromise on the quality and/or quantity of the food they consume. This phenomenon is observed globally, not only in low- and middle-income countries but also in high income countries. The report also shows that the world is not on track to meet global nutrition targets, including those on low birthweight and on reducing stunting among children under five years. Moreover, overweight and obesity continue to increase in all regions, particularly among school-age children and adults. The report stresses that no region is exempt from the epidemic of overweight and obesity, underscoring the necessity of multifaceted, multisectoral approaches to halt and reverse these worrying trends. In light of the fragile state of the world economy, the report presents new evidence confirming that hunger has been on the rise for many countries where the economy has slowed down or contracted. Unpacking the links between economic slowdowns and downturns and food insecurity and malnutrition, the report contends that the effects of the former on the latter can only be offset by addressing the root causes of hunger and malnutrition: poverty, inequality and marginalization. -

The report provides a benchmark against which our collective progress to conserve this essential resource can be measured. The report synthesizes the work of some 200 soil scientists from 60 countries. It provides a global perspective on the current state of the soil, its role in providing ecosystem services, and the threats to its continued contribution to these services. The specific threats considered in the report are soil erosion, compaction, acidification, contamination, sealing, salinization, waterlogging, nutrient imbalance (e.g. both nutrient deficiency and nutrient excess), and losses of soil organic carbon (SOC) and of biodiversity.

El informe también destaca que la inseguridad alimentaria es algo más que solamente hambre. Por vez primera, el informe proporciona datos según los cuales hay muchas personas en el mundo que, si bien no padecen hambre, experimentan inseguridad alimentaria moderada, ya que se enfrentan a incertidumbres en cuanto a su capacidad para obtener alimentos y se ven obligadas a aceptar menos calidad o cantidad en los alimentos que consumen. Este fenómeno se observa a nivel mundial, no solamente en países de ingresos bajos y medianos, sino también en países de ingresos altos. El informe también pone de manifiesto que el mundo no está en camino de cumplir las metas mundiales de nutrición, incluidas las relativas al bajo peso al nacer y a la reducción del retraso del crecimiento en los niños menores de cinco años. Además, el sobrepeso y la obesidad siguen aumentando en todas las regiones, especialmente entre los niños en edad escolar y los adultos. El informe destaca que no hay ninguna región libre de la epidemia del sobrepeso y la obesidad, y subraya la necesidad de enfoques multifacéticos y multisectoriales para detener y revertir estas inquietantes tendencias. -
