Synopsis (short abstract) The 17th issue of FAO Türkiye newsletter focuses on the success achieved in employment in the Strengthening Livelihoods project, which we implemented to maintain hope for a Better Life for Syrians under Temporary Protection, which has become one of the most significant global issues following the Syrian civil war. The Employment Report data, which tracks the outcomes of the joint work carried out with the beneficiaries and producers whose vocational training was provided within the scope of the project, reveals promising figures. In this issue, we believe that the outputs of the projects we implemented under the FAO Türkiye Partnership Programme will also be of interest to our readers. The programme, which shares the knowledge and experience of the Türkiye office with Central Asian countries, has produced tangible results in the form of forest fire prevention projects. These will serve as a model for other countries. We have also seen a significant increase in the number of climate crisis-related projects we are carrying out. This issue includes details of the new projects we have initiated and our expectations for them.

    FAO and Türkiye's cooperation continues to prosper through two Partnership Programmes dedicated to food security and sustainable management of natural resources – the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP II) and the FAO-Türkiye Forestry Programme (FTFP), both of which are supported by trust fund contributions of the Government of Türkiye, which total to date USD 30 million.     In the last issue of FAOTURN 2023, we have prepared a panorama of all the activities and events we have carried out as the Türkiye office in one year. We have implemented hundreds of events and dozens of projects in three different portfolio and Regular Programmes all over Türkiye. In this issue, we have prepared an informative compilation about our partnership programs in our cover file. 2023 was a very difficult year for Türkiye. The earthquakes on 6 February, which killed more than 50 000 people, were particularly challenging for everyone. FAO has been on the ground with producers from the first moment to ensure food security and reproduction in these regions, which are also important agricultural and food production basins of Türkiye. In this issue, our efforts to empower women in the sector and protect their rights also took an important place.

    According to United Nations projections, the world’s population is expected to exceed 10 billion by 2050. One of the most pressing challenges we face is producing enoughfood to feed this population. Although global agriculture has the capacity to feed everyone, according to the latest SOFI around 733 million people still suffer from hunger due toconflict, extreme climate events and economic shocks. The global climate crisis is a significant factor contributing to hunger and food shortages. Agriculture is both one akey contributor to the climate crisis and one of the most severely impacted sectors. FAO is implementing many projects in Türkiye to combat the effects of climate change. These projects focus on issues such as training farmers in climate-smart production models through Applied Farmer Schools and crop diversification. This issue of FAOTURN also includes the latest evaluations of the project to empower Syrians under temporary protection who have fled the civil war in Syria to Türkiye through agricultural employment. Vilcinsas, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, the donor of the project, who writes under this title, also draws attention. As in every issue, there are also successes and stories of women producers in the agri-food sector.
