2015La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) organizaron conjuntamente la Segunda Conferencia Internacional sobre Nutrición (CIN2), que se celebró en la sede de la FAO, en Roma, del 19 al 21 de noviembre de 2014. La CIN2 reunió a líderes de los gobiernos, la sociedad civil y el sector privado para discutir sobre las principales cuestiones relacionadas con la nutrición, examinar los progresos realizados desde la pri mera CIN en 1992 y aprobar colectivamente la Declaración de Roma sobre la Nutrición y su correspondiente Marco de acción, para la eliminación de una vez por todas del hambre y la malnutrición.

The focus is on the international coordination that came together after the Second World War in the confident belief that, with vaccines available, the eradication of rinderpest was a practical possibility. In both Africa and South Asia, beginning in the 1960s, there was an initial dramatic success through the coordinated vaccination of cattle across the continents. Unfortunately, follow-up measures could not prevent the return of epidemic rinderpest, albeit to a lesser extent. Chastened by failure, the international community refocused with renewed energy to achieve eradication. The vaccination programmes broadened to reflect a multidisciplinary approach to disease eradication. FAO and the OIE, together with international aid agencies, coordinated policy with the nation states and guided implementation of the era¬dication programmes until success was achieved. -

No results found.Global climate studies show that not only temperatures are increasing and precipitation levels are becoming more varied, all projections indicate these trends will continue. It is therefore imperative that we understand changes in climate over agricultural areas and their impacts on agriculture production and food security. This study presents new analysis on the impact of changing climate on agriculture and food security, by examining the evidence on recent climate variability and extremes over agricultural areas and the impact of these on agriculture and food security. It shows that more countries are exposed to increasing climate variability and extremes and the frequency (the number of years exposed in a five-year period) and intensity (the number of types of climate extremes in a five-year period) of exposure over agricultural areas have increased. The findings of this study are compelling and bring urgency to the fact that climate variability and extremes are proliferating and intensifying and are contributing to a rise in global hunger. The world’s 2.5 billion small-scale farmers, herders, fishers, and forest-dependent people, who derive their food and income from renewable natural resources, are most at risk and affected. Actions to strengthen the resilience of livelihoods and food systems to climate variability and extremes urgently need to be scaled up and accelerated. -
