Synopsis (short abstract) Despite the important, multifunctional role that forests play in the health of the global environment, there is a lack of high-quality, up-to-date educational materials on forests for schoolchildren. This project was designed to fill this gap by fostering the development of contextualized forest education modules in the United Republic of Tanzania and the Philippines to ensure that forest resources are safeguarded for future generations and that forests are sustainably managed for years to come.

    The global project, “Fostering Partnerships to Build Coherence and Support for Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR)”, aims to enhance the synergies of CPF members in the global process of restoring forest landscapes, and to assist countries and stakeholders to scale up and strengthen the implementation of FLR at national and subnational levels. The aim of the current project was to position the CPF to play a catalytic role in strengthening national and international support and engagement on FLR. The overall objectives were to catalyse public and private sector investment in FLR, and to identify and support the implementation of key opportunities for a more effective engagement in FLR by CPF members and other important stakeholders.

    Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in Trinidad and Tobago - GCP/TRI/003/GFF 2021

    Approximately 60 percent of the land area of Trinidad and Tobago is covered by forests and other wooded land. These areas are crucial to the health of the planet and to the livelihoods of the people who depend on the resources they provide. For these reasons, they have been designated as Protected Areas (PAs). The management of these PAs has been fragmentary in nature, owing to the fact that multiple laws have been established regarding their organization and maintenance. Pressure from various stakeholders has also been placed on PAs, posing a threat to biodiversity and causing degradation. The wildlife population has declined in many of these areas, putting species in both terrestrial and nearby marine ecosystems at risk. This project was designed to build upon existing efforts to prevent biodiversity loss and to make the management of PAs in Trinidad and Tobago more effective. The development of a cohesive PA system and the creation of a related funding mechanism were central goals of the project.

    Boosting Restoration, Income, Development, and Generating Ecosystem Services (BRIDGES) in Eritrea, Mauritania and the Sudan - GCP/INT/340/TUR 2024

    In 2007, the African Union (AU) launched the implementation of the Great Green Wall (GGW) initiative, which aims to tackle deforestation, desertification, biodiversity loss, climate change, food insecurity and poverty in Africa’s drylands through the establishment of productive green landscapes, ultimately increasing the prosperity and resilience of the millions of people living in targeted areas. The Boosting Restoration, Income, Development, Generating Ecosystem Services (BRIDGES) Project was designed within the framework of the GGW programme and aimed to strengthen the work being done on large-scale land restoration in Eritrea, Mauritania, and the Sudan, three countries with a high level of desertification and land degradation.The project was centred around the achievement of three main results that were based on its Outputs: (i) the creation of an enabling environment and the building of capacities; (ii) the restoration of degraded lands and the implementation of sustainable land management practices; and (iii) effective knowledge management, communications and visibility.
