    La campaña de 2015 ya está muy avanzada al sur del ecuador, mientas que se aproxima a un período crítico en el hemisferio norte, donde las condiciones climáticas que se registren en julio y agosto, en particular las precipitaciones, influirán en gran medida en los rendimientos de los cultivos principales, así como también el volumen de agua disponible en los embalses para la producción de la mayoría de cultivos secundarios de regadío.

    La FAO ha bajado su pronóstico de abril relativo a la producción mundial de arroz en 2012 en 7,8 millones de toneladas, debido a un empeoramiento de las perspectivas en Asia. La revisión a la baja concernía principalmente a la India, donde a mediados de julio las críticas lluvias monzónicas se redujeron en un 22 por ciento respecto al promedio a largo plazo.

    Se estima que, a pesar de haber comenzado mal, la campaña del arroz de 2007 ha obtenido una producción récord de 658 millones de toneladas, un 2,5 por ciento más que el año anterior, debido en gran parte a las cosechas secundarias, cuya siembra coincidió con el período del alza vertiginosa de los precios.

    The Russian Federation and Ukraine are among the most important producers of agricultural commodities in the world. Both countries are leading suppliers of agricultural products to global markets, where exportable supplies are often concentrated in a handful of countries. The Russian Federation is also a leading producer and exporter of fuels and fertilizers. The war in Ukraine is resulting in growing global market tightness, lifting prices for food, fertilizers and fuels to new highs. This report reviews the main market risks associated with the conflict, assesses the impacts on global food supplies and food security and puts forward policy recommendations and proposals to deal with the situation.

    There is increasing attention to the importance of biodiversity for food security and nutrition, especially above-ground biodiversity such as plants and animals. However, less attention is being paid to the biodiversity beneath our feet, soil biodiversity, which drives many processes that produce food or purify soil and water. This report is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission. It presents concisely the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to it, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different fields. It also represents a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the importance of soil biodiversity and highlighting its role in finding solutions to today's global threats.
