Los resultados preliminares del análisis del mercado del banano se publican anualmente para los miembros y observadores del Subgrupo sobre el banano del Grupo intergubernamental sobre el banano y las frutas tropicales, órgano auxiliar del Comité de Problemas de Productos Básicos de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO).Este informe ofrece un análisis preliminar sobre la evolución del comercio mundial de banano en 2024. El análisis del presente informe se basa en datos sobre cantidades y valores comerciales recopilados de diversas fuentes, como se indica en la nota sobre metodología. Los resultados incorporan datos comerciales mensuales preliminares, así como información de fuentes de la industria disponibles hasta inicios de noviembre de 2024. Todos los datos de este informe deben considerarse preliminares. La FAO da seguimiento de modo continuo a los flujos comerciales mundiales del banano y actualizará estos resultados en el segundo cuatrimestre de 2025 cuando se hayan publicado y validado los datos oficiales de 2024. -

El presente informe describe los resultados relativos al año completo 2024 sobre la evolución en el comercio mundial de bananos y representa una actualización del análisis del mercado del banano: resultados preliminares 2024. El análisis presentado en este informe se basa en datos sobre cantidades y valores comerciales recopilados de diversas fuentes, tal y como se describe en la nota sobre metodología. Las conclusiones incorporan datos e información revisados disponibles hasta finales de mayo de 2025. La FAO realiza un seguimiento continuo de los flujos comerciales del banano a nivel mundial y actualiza estos resultados en caso de publicación de revisiones de los datos notificados oficialmente. -

Preparado por el Equipo de Inversiones Internacionales y Frutas Tropicales de la División de Comercio y Mercados de la FAO, Roma, los cuadros que contienen recogen la información de que dispone la FAO, complementada por los datos obtenidos de otras fuentes, en particular en lo que se refiere a las estimaciones preliminares.

Moving forward on food loss and waste reduction
2019The need to reduce food loss and waste is firmly embedded in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Food loss and waste reduction is considered important for improving food security and nutrition, promoting environmental sustainability and lowering production costs. However, efforts to reduce food loss and waste will only be effective if informed by a solid understanding of the problem. This report provides new estimates of the percentage of the world’s food lost from production up to the retail level. The report also finds a vast diversity in existing estimates of losses, even for the same commodities and for the same stages in the supply chain. Clearly identifying and understanding critical loss points in specific supply chains – where considerable potential exists for reducing food losses – is crucial to deciding on appropriate measures. The report provides some guiding principles for interventions based on the objectives being pursued through food loss and waste reductions, be they in improved economic efficiency, food security and nutrition, or environmental sustainability. -

This paper includes joint FAO and WHO work to evaluate the latest information and scientific evidence available on the functional and safety aspects of food probiotics, as well as the methodology to assess such aspects, by bringing together worldwide scientific experts in the field. It includes the reports of the expert consultation and of the working group. These reports provide scientific advice in relation to the safety assessment of probiotics, general guidance for their evaluation and on specific questions in relation to their pathogenicity, toxigenicity, allergenicity, as well as to their functional and nutritional properties. The guidelines for the evaluation of probiotics in foods were developed as part of this joint effort, providing criteria and methodology to assess the efficacy and the safety of these products. -
