Su objetivo consiste en extraer algunas enseñanzas de la aplicación de los enfoques cent rados en las personas en la FAO y, en cierta medida, en distintos contextos de desarrollo (culturales, lingüísticos, etc.).

2004En el presente documento se examinan diversos casos de proyectos en que se aplicaron enfoques o principios basados en los modos de vida sostenibles y que, como consecuencia de ello, surtieron un efecto concreto en la reducción de la pobreza. Puesto que no se trata de un estudio comparativo entre éste y otros tipos de enfoques, no se han tomado en consideración casos de planteamientos más “tradicionales”. Aunque el COAG no lo ha solicitado específicamente, en el documento se intenta asimismo iden tificar los elementos operacionales e institucionales que figuran sistemáticamente en los casos en que se reportó un impacto satisfactorio en la población rural pobre. -

Durante las últimas tres décadas, muchos países alrededor del mundo mejoraron las condiciones de tenencia de los bosques al ofrecer a los pueblos indígenas y comunidades locales un mayor reconocimiento de los derechos para el acceso y manejo de los bosques. En muchos países de América Latina, las pequeñas empresas forestales y comunitarias han crecido en número, algunas de ellas desarrollando asociaciones y alianzas sólidas para promover y mantener su crecimiento. Sin embargo, el potencial de estas empresas aún no ha desarrollado del todo, ya que en varios países aún enfrentan obstáculos y desafíos importantes que limitan su expansión y crecimiento. Por tanto, esta publicación tiene como objetivo apoyar a los tomadores de decisión en materia de política forestal a que tengan una mejor comprensión del estado y las dinámicas de las pequeñas empresas forestales en Latino América, así como conocer sus necesidades y los desafíos que enfrentan y con ello apoyarlas en generar un entorno favorable (político, legal e institucional) para escalar el desarrollo sostenible de las mismas. Esta publicación contribuye al Objetivo Estratégico 3 (Reducir la Pobreza Rural), particularmente al producto 1.2 (Gobiernos y partes interesadas relevantes están facultados para promover e implementar enfoques, políticas, programas que favorezcan a los pobres y que mejoren el acceso y la gestión sostenible de los recursos naturales), así como al producto 1.3 (Gobiernos y partes interesadas relevantes están facultados para proporcionar a los productores y hogares rurales pobres las tecnologías apropiadas y el acceso a conocimientos, insumos y mercados).

Urbanization, agrifood systems transformation and healthy diets across the rural–urban continuum
2023This report provides an update on global progress towards the targets of ending hunger (SDG Target 2.1) and all forms of malnutrition (SDG Target 2.2) and estimates on the number of people who are unable to afford a healthy diet. Since its 2017 edition, this report has repeatedly highlighted that the intensification and interaction of conflict, climate extremes and economic slowdowns and downturns, combined with highly unaffordable nutritious foods and growing inequality, are pushing us off track to meet the SDG 2 targets. However, other important megatrends must also be factored into the analysis to fully understand the challenges and opportunities for meeting the SDG 2 targets. One such megatrend, and the focus of this year’s report, is urbanization. New evidence shows that food purchases in some countries are no longer high only among urban households but also among rural households. Consumption of highly processed foods is also increasing in peri-urban and rural areas of some countries. These changes are affecting people’s food security and nutrition in ways that differ depending on where they live across the rural–urban continuum. This timely and relevant theme is aligned with the United Nations General Assembly-endorsed New Urban Agenda, and the report provides recommendations on the policies, investments and actions needed to address the challenges of agrifood systems transformation under urbanization and to enable opportunities for ensuring access to affordable healthy diets for everyone. -

Repurposing food and agricultural policies to make healthy diets more affordable
2022This year’s report should dispel any lingering doubts that the world is moving backwards in its efforts to end hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms. We are now only eight years away from 2030, but the distance to reach many of the SDG 2 targets is growing wider each year. There are indeed efforts to make progress towards SDG 2, yet they are proving insufficient in the face of a more challenging and uncertain context. The intensification of the major drivers behind recent food insecurity and malnutrition trends (i.e. conflict, climate extremes and economic shocks) combined with the high cost of nutritious foods and growing inequalities will continue to challenge food security and nutrition. This will be the case until agrifood systems are transformed, become more resilient and are delivering lower cost nutritious foods and affordable healthy diets for all, sustainably and inclusively. -

Major transformations in agricultural systems, rural economies, and natural resources management are necessary. The present study was undertaken for the quadrennial review of FAO’s strategic framework and for the preparation of the Organization Medium-Term plan 2018-2021.
