Gender bonds offer a promising solution, but better tracking systems are needed. Collaboration between donors and private investors can boost funding, creating significant impacts on food security, poverty reduction, and inclusive development. -

More specifically, the purpose of the handbook is to serve as a comprehensive and practical reference tool for gender focal points to support their respective divisions and offices in complying with the requirements set by the corporate Policy on Gender Equality. It can also serve as a valuable resource for all FAO employees who are interested in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, and to better understand the frameworks and institutional mechanisms that guide and sustain FAO’s work on gender.

No results found.The objective of this publication is to present the policy and management approach of each member country on its protective forests. The goal of the member countries is to increase the resilience of mountain forests and ensure the sustainability of their protective functions for society. Each country report covers the following topics: 1) definition of protective forests; 2) characteristics of the national protective forest system; 3) challenges encountered in the management and strengthening of protective forests, including climate change impacts; 4) governance of the protective forest system; and 5) monitoring and planning systems for protective forests. Countries have defined, characterized, and identified challenges inherent to their protective forests, and it is through their appropriate governance, management and planning that the forests are able to provide ecosystem services in a sustainable way. In the context of a changing climate, the approach has to be revisited and adapted to novel and increasingly more uncertain conditions. This review of reports from 12 countries shows that especially mountain regions in Europe are facing common challenges and that different approaches can be learnt from each another. We hope that this report may provide a basis for further actions in transboundary and international cooperation for maintaining and enhancing protective forests. -

No results found.The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018. -

No results found.This special volume briefly describe the efforts of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) between 2011 and 2017 in providing assistance to member countries in dealing with Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) of penaeid shrimp, through two Technical Cooperation Project (TCP), which lead to the production of this volume of collected papers. The first project TCP/VIE/3304 was an emergency TCP project, Vietnam as recipient country. The second project TCP/INT/3502 was an interregional TCP project with Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Peru from the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region, and India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Philippines and Sri Lanka from the Asian region as recipient countries. A significant concern to the shrimp aquaculture sector, AHPND will continue to hamper the continuity of food supply, impact livelihoods and reduce national export earnings. This special issue of Asian Fisheries Science on AHPND contains some of the technical papers that were delivered during the Viet Nam, Panama and Bangkok EMS/AHPND events between June 2013 and June 2016. This volume contains at least 21 contributions on a range of topics aimed at continuously updating the knowledge and experiences in dealing with AHPND and related topics from the perspectives of the government, academe and producer sectors.
