Synopsis (short abstract) This side event will highlight the critical role that financing for development plays in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, and how it can be a cornerstone that can prevent and mitigate food crises and transform agrifood systems. The event will also offer a platform for institutions and countries to present their programme and discuss ways for leveraging different capacities, both financial and technical, to accelerate progress in gender equality and women's empowerment. Special focus will be placed on the empowerment of rural women, acknowledging the key role they have in ensuring inclusive sustainable agricultural practices and building the resilience of communities.

This brief, part of a series of policy briefs on Financing for Development, explores the funding landscape for GEWE projects. Climate finance often overlooks GEWE, despite its importance. Gender bonds offer a promising solution, but better tracking systems are needed. Collaboration between donors and private investors can boost funding, creating significant impacts on food security, poverty reduction, and inclusive development.
