Synopsis (short abstract) The Global Action on the Green Development of Special Agricultural Products: One Country, One Priority Product (OCOP) is a five-year initiative launched by FAO in 2021, aimed at promoting agricultural products with distinct qualities that have the potential for sustainable development. The program seeks to enhance the value of these unique products at global, regional, and local levels, helping countries leverage their agricultural heritage while promoting environmentally friendly practices.In Latin America and the Caribbean, 14 countries have been selected to participate in the OCOP initiative. Each nation has chosen a specific agricultural product that reflects their unique cultural and environmental context. The goal is to support the green development of these products, ensuring they meet global sustainability standards and can contribute to the socio-economic development of the regions.This document addresses the situation in the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The OCOP product is quinoa, a crop that holds exceptional cultural, nutritional, and environmental significance. The Plurinational State of Bolivia is recognized as one of the world's primary producers of quinoa, often referred to as the "golden grain of the Andes." Quinoa’s unique resilience to harsh climates and its high nutritional value make it a cornerstone of food security both locally and globally.

    The population of the Altiplano, mostly indigenous, has the highest poverty rate in the country, and relies on subsistence agriculture as its main livelihood (potato, quinoa, cañahua, barley, oats and alfalfa). This population is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and faces recurrent threats such as drought, frost and hailstorms that negatively affect their agricultural livelihoods and food security. More than 2 800 communities and 486 000 families in six departments of the Bolivian Altiplano have been affected by these events. In this context, it is imperative to urgently implement anticipatory actions to mitigate climate-induced risks to the livelihoods and food security of the most vulnerable people. To contribute to the achievement of this objective, the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 344 412 to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through the SFERA programme. Thanks to this generous contribution, FAO will support 6 500 vulnerable households dependent on family farming in the Bolivian Altiplano, with water harvesting storage and supply systems, feeding and animal health actions, as well as distribution of drought-tolerant seeds and agricultural inputs.

    This is the second instalment in a 6-part series that highlights the successes of the FAO-implemented and Republic of Korea-funded Action to support implementation of Codex AMR Texts (ACT) project. International Codex Alimentarius standards, guidelines, and codes of practice (Codex texts) have been developed to assist countries in controlling foodborne AMR, and the "Action to support implementation of Codex AMR texts (ACT)" project is supporting these efforts in the Plurinational State of Bolivia. This fact sheet presents the landscape of antimicrobial resistance and use, strengths and opportunities to control AMR in the Plurinational State of Bolivia. It highlights the role of the ACT project and the expected results.
