2017La FAO publicó en 1997 la primera versión de este manual sobre la presentación y evaluación de datos sobre residuos de plaguicidas para la estimación de los límites máximos de residuos en alimentos y piensos, con el objetivo de consolidar los procedimientos utilizados por el Grupo de expertos de la FAO de residuos de plaguicidas. El Manual de la FAO fue revisado en el 2002 y en el 2009, incorporó información adicional del Informe de la JMPR de 1997-2009. Desde entonces, ha habido muchos aconteci mientos en el proceso de evaluación científica de la Reunión Conjunta sobre Residuos de Plaguicidas (JMPR), administrada por la FAO y la Organización Mundial de la Salud. El presente manual incorpora toda la información y principios pertinentes que la JMPR utiliza actualmente para estimar los límites máximos de residuos (LMR), la concentración mediana de residuos en ensayos supervisados (STMR) y el riesgo alimentario de los residuos de plaguicidas. El manual se revisará y actualizará constanteme nte a la luz de la experiencia adquirida y de la evolución de la evaluación de los datos sobre residuos. Su objetivo es también mejorar la comunicación entre el Comité del Codex sobre Residuos de Plaguicidas (CCPR) y sus países miembros y otros participantes en el CCPR y explicar los procedimientos que está adoptando el Grupo de la JMPR de la FAO. -

Este manual de capacitación sobre residuos de plaguicidas se realizó para presentar a los participantes los procedimientos y prácticas de evaluación de residuos en la JMPR. Inicialmente fue preparado para un taller de capacitación en Budapest en noviembre de 2010 y se utilizó para impartir capacitación en Bangkok, Accra, Sao Paulo y Beijing, pero partes de este manual fueron utilizadas en muchos otros talleres también. El contenido del manual se actualizó y revisó a la luz de la experiencia en los talleres de capacitación y por los principios de trabajo en constante evolución del Panel de la Reunión conjunta FAO/OMS sobre residuos de plaguicidas (JMPR), que se describen en la 3ª edición del manual de la FAO sobre la presentación y evaluación de los datos de residuos de plaguicidas para la estimación de los niveles máximos de residuos en alimentos y piensos(2015).

Urbanization, agrifood systems transformation and healthy diets across the rural–urban continuum
2023This report provides an update on global progress towards the targets of ending hunger (SDG Target 2.1) and all forms of malnutrition (SDG Target 2.2) and estimates on the number of people who are unable to afford a healthy diet. Since its 2017 edition, this report has repeatedly highlighted that the intensification and interaction of conflict, climate extremes and economic slowdowns and downturns, combined with highly unaffordable nutritious foods and growing inequality, are pushing us off track to meet the SDG 2 targets. However, other important megatrends must also be factored into the analysis to fully understand the challenges and opportunities for meeting the SDG 2 targets. One such megatrend, and the focus of this year’s report, is urbanization. New evidence shows that food purchases in some countries are no longer high only among urban households but also among rural households. Consumption of highly processed foods is also increasing in peri-urban and rural areas of some countries. These changes are affecting people’s food security and nutrition in ways that differ depending on where they live across the rural–urban continuum. This timely and relevant theme is aligned with the United Nations General Assembly-endorsed New Urban Agenda, and the report provides recommendations on the policies, investments and actions needed to address the challenges of agrifood systems transformation under urbanization and to enable opportunities for ensuring access to affordable healthy diets for everyone. -

The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge.
