El Codex Alimentarius (que en latín significa ley o código de alimentos) es un compendio de normas alimentarias aceptadas internacionalmente y presentadas de modo uniforme. Contiene también disposiciones de c arácter consultivo, en forma de códigos de prácticas, directrices y otras medidas recomendadas para ayudar a alcanzar los fines del Codex Alimentarius. La Comisión ha expresado la opinión de que los códigos de prácticas podrían proporcionar útiles listas de control de los requisitos impuestos por los sistemas nacionales de comprobación de los alimentos o las autoridades encargadas de su aplicación. La publicación del Codex Alimentarius tiene por finalidad servir de orientación y fomentar la elaboración y el establecimiento de definiciones y requisitos aplicables a los alimentos, para contribuir a su armonización, y de esta forma, facilitar el comercio internacional.

El etiquetado de los alimentos es el instrumento de comunicación primordial entre el productor y el vendedor de alimentos, por una parte, y el comprador y el consumidor, por otra. Las normas y directrices de etiquetado de los alimentos, publicadas en los distintos volúmenes del Codex Alimentarius, se ofrecen ahora comprendiadas en un formato com pacto que permite su uso y comprensión amplios por los gobiernos, las autoridades de reglamentación, las industrias de alimentosy minoristas, y los consumidores.

This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.
