2002La place réservée au renforcement des capacités parmi les principaux thèmes à l'ordre du jour de cette réunion du Forum mondial témoigne de l'urgence reconnue de cet aspect dans le domaine de la sécurité sanitaire des aliments et du souci qu'ont les institutions multilatérales, peut-être aussi les pays développés, de s'engager sérieusement dans cette voie. La plupart des problèmes et des questions ont été mis en lumière dans l'excellent document de M. Rios présenté à la conférence de Melbourne e n octobre 1999. Bien que les choses aient bien avancé, les problèmes de fond demeurent. L'intention de la présente communication est donc de rappeler nombre des points mentionnés dans le document cité et de chercher à réaffirmer les circonstances, les contraintes et les réalités concrètes dans lesquelles le renforcement des capacités doit s'inscrire, c'est-à-dire de tenter de présenter des possibilités pragmatiques et réalistes dans ce sens. Nous nous sommes efforcés de traiter séparément t rois questions, bien que des chevauchements soient inévitables: les systèmes nationaux de sécurité sanitaire des aliments (le domaine le plus important), les questions relatives au Codex et l'assistance technique bilatérale (en matière sanitaire et phytosanitaire, par exemple). -

The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge.
