Book (stand-alone)The AGRIS Application Profile for the International Information System on Agricultural Sciences and Technology
Guidelines on Best Practices for Information Object Description
2005The first COAIM (Consultation on Agricultural information Management), held in June 2000 recognized that AGRIS should become “a key enabler and catalyst to establish a new model of agricultural information management”. Furthermore, it was agreed that FAO [1] should develop AGRIS into a capacity building initiative as well as an information system. The AGRIS network now has 201 Resource Centres, which vary in their resources and level of participation in the network, and opportunities exist to im prove the effectiveness of the initiative through enhanced collaboration. A proposal for a new metadata standard for AGRIS reference was presented at COAIM 2002. This paper is a result of the evaluations made during COAIM 2002. It defines a set of high quality metadata on scientific and technical papers, and is directed at improving accessibility of materials on the Web. The standard also covers the necessary metadata for retrieving publications that are available only in paper format or that h ave restricted access. -
Book (stand-alone)Génération du XML PA AGRIS à partir de bases de données locales 2005This document provides detailed technical information for converting bibliographic data from local databases into valid AGRIS DTD compliant XML records. The process that is to be carried out is, to some extent, complex. However, the result will benefit the Institutions and Centres that produce bibliographic data of agricultural content, in the conversion to XML data that can be disseminated to and harvested by the AGRIS XML repository. The XML repository is aggregated, maintained, organized and made available via the Internet. The main purpose of this guide is to facilitate the conversion process thorough step-by-step instructions and to provide a list of common pitfalls.
