    La pesca sigue siendo el método de producción de alimentos que requiere más intensidad de energía en el mundo y depende casi totalmente del uso de motores de combustión interna que funcionan con derivados del petróleo. Hasta ahora no hay indicios de que otra fuente de energía podría llevar a sustituir el uso de estos motores a mediano o corto plazo. La industria sigue siendo sensible a los precios mundiales de los combustibles y no cabe suponer que éstos se mantengan indefinidamente estables. La s actividades pesqueras en pequeña escala aportan casi la mitad de la producción mundial de pescado y, aunque en general requieren una mayor intensidad de mano de obra que las grandes actividades pesqueras industriales, se ven cada vez más afectadas por los costos de la energía. En los países en desarrollo, a pesar de las iniciativas encaminadas a promover el ahorro de energía del decenio de 1980 (posteriores al notable aumento en los precios de los combustibles fósiles), la mecanización sigue a umentando. Los costos de los combustibles tienen una influencia creciente no sólo en los precios al consumidor, sino también en los ingresos netos de los pescadores y los propietarios de embarcaciones. Si se consideran los niveles de empleo y los sistemas de repartición de los costos, desde una perspectiva social es aún más evidente la importancia de mejorar y mantener la eficiencia energética de la pesca en pequeña escala. Esta obra se divide en dos secciones principales: la primera se refiere a los cambios de las técnicas operativas en lugar de a los cambios tecnológicos; la segunda presenta información pertinente para los armadores que estén pensando en construir una nueva embarcación o revisar y reacondicionar una ya existente.

Las distintas secciones abarcan todas las etapas de la construcción de una pequeña embarcación pesquera de ferrocemento, desde su proyecto y los requisitos y técnicas para el trazado de gálibos hasta las reparaci ones y la preparación y pintado del casco de ferrocemento. Se ofrece información sobre los lugares de construcción, talleres, equipo, herramientas y dispositivos de botadura; los materiales utilizados en la construcción; ensayo y empleo de materiales de construcción; construcción de un casco de ferrocemento; reparaciones y uniones con ferrocemento; preparación y pintado de un casco de ferrocemento; los requisitos específicos de la construcción de una embarcación de ferrocemento y el armamento en ferrocemento y madera; y las directrices conocidas para la construcción de un buque que se ajuste a las normas de clasificación. El anexo contiene los costos y planos de un arrastrero de ferrocemento de 12,8 m construido en la India con la ayuda técnica de la FAO. Se expone la disposición general, la construcción del casco, los planos de formas, las cuadernas y la superestructura.

    While some progress and recovery have been made in recent years, the world is still above pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels and far from eradicating hunger and food insecurity by 2030 (SDG Target 2.1). Similarly, despite some progress in the global nutrition targets, the world is not on track to achieve SDG Target 2.2. Among other factors, persistent food price inflation has slowed this momentum.The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2025 highlights how elevated inflation in many countries has undermined purchasing power and, especially among low-income populations, access to healthy diets. The report documents how high food price inflation is associated with increases in food insecurity and child malnutrition. Vulnerable groups, including low-income households, women, and rural communities, can be particularly affected by food price inflation, risking setbacks in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.In response to these challenges and to prevent future price shocks, the report examines policy measures adopted by countries, and outlines what is necessary going forwards. It stresses the importance of coherent implementation of fiscal and monetary policies to stabilize markets, promote open and resilient trade, and protect vulnerable populations. Additionally, it calls for better data systems and sustained investment in resilient agrifood systems to build long-term food security and nutrition. These coordinated actions are vital to reignite progress towards ending hunger and malnutrition by 2030.

    In recent years, several major drivers have put the world off track to ending world hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. The challenges have grown with the COVID-19 pandemic and related containment measures. This report presents the first global assessment of food insecurity and malnutrition for 2020 and offers some indication of what hunger might look like by 2030 in a scenario further complicated by the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also includes new estimates of the cost and affordability of healthy diets, which provide an important link between the food security and nutrition indicators and the analysis of their trends. Altogether, the report highlights the need for a deeper reflection on how to better address the global food security and nutrition situation.To understand how hunger and malnutrition have reached these critical levels, this report draws on the analyses of the past four editions, which have produced a vast, evidence-based body of knowledge of the major drivers behind the recent changes in food security and nutrition. These drivers, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, include conflicts, climate variability and extremes, and economic slowdowns and downturns – all exacerbated by the underlying causes of poverty and very high and persistent levels of inequality. In addition, millions of people around the world suffer from food insecurity and different forms of malnutrition because they cannot afford the cost of healthy diets. From a synthesized understanding of this knowledge, updates and additional analyses are generated to create a holistic view of the combined effects of these drivers, both on each other and on food systems, and how they negatively affect food security and nutrition around the world.In turn, the evidence informs an in-depth look at how to move from silo solutions to integrated food systems solutions. In this regard, the report proposes transformative pathways that specifically address the challenges posed by the major drivers, also highlighting the types of policy and investment portfolios required to transform food systems for food security, improved nutrition, and affordable healthy diets for all. The report observes that, while the pandemic has caused major setbacks, there is much to be learned from the vulnerabilities and inequalities it has laid bare. If taken to heart, these new insights and wisdom can help get the world back on track towards the goal of ending hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition in all its forms.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
