La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO) y la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomiendan una ingesta diaria de frutas y verduras (F&V) de al menos 400 gramos por adulto. Sin embargo, la baja ingesta de las F&V se ha convertido en un problema de salud pública mundial. La promoción de las F&V en el Año Internacional de las Frutas y Verduras enfatiza las F&V sin procesar o mínimamente procesadas, que son altamente beneficiosas para la salud. Sin embargo, el procesamiento puede mejorar la seguridad alimentaria, especialmente por la contaminación microbiológica, y reducir la pérdida y el desperdicio. Por el contrario, las F&V que se procesan en gran medida pueden socavar los beneficios para la salud del consumo de F&V. -

No results found.La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas declaró el año 2021 como el Año Internacional de las Frutas y Verduras y designó a la FAO para liderar la implementación de este año. El AIFV ofreció la oportunidad única de sensibilizar sobre la importancia de las frutas y verduras para la nutrición humana, la seguridad alimentaria y la salud, y para el logro de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas. El objetivo principal del AIFV era tanto sensibilizar como dirigir la atención política hacia los beneficios nutricionales y para la salud del consumo de F&V, la promoción de dietas y estilos de vida diversificados, equilibrados y saludables y reducir la pérdida y el desperdicio, en combinación con la promoción de prácticas agrícolas sostenibles. El proyecto “Apoyo al Año Internacional de Frutas y Verduras, 2021” se abrió para apoyar la planificación e implementación del AIFV. -

Mientras muchos países en desarrollo llevan a cabo esfuerzos por desarrollar ventajas competitivas que les permitan asegurar su participación en el mercado global de las frutas y hortalizas; recientes desarrollos relacionados con estrictos requisitos en materia de la calidad e inocuidad, en los mercados importadores, implican nuevos retos para los países, en cuanto a realizar ajustes en los procesos de producción, comercialización y en los sistemas de control, que les permita dar cumplimiento a dichos requisitos, e incluso anticiparse a los mismos.

No results found.This publication reports the proceedings of the twenty-fifth session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) held in Rotorua, New Zealand from 5 to 8 November 2013. In line with the "forests for prosperity"� theme of the session, the Commission reported on recent initiatives in several countries to expand value-added wood processing, enhance wood recovery from forest resources, tap new market opportunities, develop payments for ecosystem services and create more jobs in the forestry secto r. Main themes considered were: sources of forest financing; forest law enforcement and governance; promoting opportunities presented by the growing awareness of links between forests and climate change; and mechanisms for capacity building, awareness raising and information sharing, among others. An in-session seminar highlighted the issue of building resilience in forests, landscapes and forest-dependent communities. Main recommendations are included in the report. -

The aim of the Consultation was to review the draft International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas which had been developed at the request of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Committee on Fisheries at its twenty-seventh ses sion (March 2007) in order to assist States and regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements in sustainably managing deep-sea fisheries and in implementing the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 61/105 chapter 10, concerning responsible fisheries in the marine ecosystem. This document contains the report of the Technical Consultation as well as the International Guidelines as adopted by the meeting.

The Consultation was held in four sessions at FAO headquarters, Rome, from 23–27 June 2008, 26–30 January 2009, 4–8 May 2009 and 24–28 August 2009. The Consulation was convened by the Director General of the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations upon the recommendation of the twentyse venth session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries. The Technical Consultation finalized the draft Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing on 28 August 2009. The Consultation was funded by the Governments of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and United States of America.
